The final project for this course is the creation of a research paper on geographic conflict. This paper is to be 7 to 10 pages long, submitted in Word format. In the paper, students identify a geographical issue or conflict. The paper can summarize any country (or region) in the world and must appraise both the selected country’s (or region’s) physical geography and human geography. The paper describes the impact of resource scarcity, issues with boundary delineation, separatism and sovereignty issues, poverty, migration, legacies of colonialism and imperialism, global climate change and its impact, and any geospatial conflict that has been previously approved by the course instructor. The paper concludes by drawing from all previous course overviews, resources, and tasks to define solutions or different directions that can be taken by the chosen country (or region) to resolve the conflict(s) at hand. The final product represents an authentic demonstration of competency because it presents the student’s work in a research paper on geographic conflict. The project is divided into three milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Module One (final paper topic, submitted as a journal post), Module Five (final paper outline), and Module Seven (research paper on geographic conflict).
