You will write and submit one response per text, due on assigned days and times (see Assignments above for all due dates). Choose your response topic from the list of discussion topics (when provided under Content—not all texts have discussion topics; for some, you will have to come up with your own discussion topic). Post your discussion paper in the relevant space for that text by following Communication Discussions. Responses should be at least one
double-spaced page, with the topic clearly identified at the top of the page and in your subject line. Students are encouraged to write more rather than less; no penalty is attached for writing more than the minimum length. Responses are meant to encourage students to pursue independent critical thinking on the text. Choose your topic
based on your reaction to the text. Here are some questions that may help guide your choice of a good response topic: • What seemed to you an important aspect of your reading? • What questions or problems occurred to you as you read the text? • What baffled or bothered you? What seemed troublesome? • What was uncovered that perhaps had not been clear before? • What most struck you about a specific character? • What did another student say on the same topic or similar topic that spurred further reflection on your part?
