Make your own analytic observations and conclusions based on the evidence the author used, the author’s ideas and your own experience. Make sure to understand what the author’s main argument is. If you read inattentively, you might have misinterpreted the real message. Make sure who the viewpoint belongs to: the author or his/her subjects? It is not enough to join another student’s response with “I agree with X” type of comments. You need to write your own response. When you are going to write a comment to someone’s response, explain why you agree or disagree and how you came to those conclusions. You will need to make up for the missed assignments in order not to miss your points. I will take one point off for each day if the response is late, but it’s still better than nothing. Read the original text. Reading other people’s comments won’t substitute for original response. You can’t write a good analytic response when you have only looked through your peers’ responses. It shoes up, really. If you make general statements, go beyond them and explain what you mean by using this or that concept or term.
