There is lot of emphasis on early identification of autism, as it would facilitate early management, which in turn would improve the condition significantly. As there are no robust biological markers, understanding the early developmental and behavioral indicators is a viable option. Aim: This study attempts to re-evaluate the early developmental and behavioral indicators identified in Indian context, with a larger population of children with autism. Methods: This study included 54 mothers of children with autism who were interviewed to elicit information on specific indicators. Results: Results indicated that early indicators could be any of the three core domains of autism. The early developmental and behavioral indicators reported in the study could be used in routine screening of infants to identify those at-risk for autism. Conclusion: Early identification is possible in children with autism if we carefully monitor the development 94 and behavioral pattern. Specific nature of the indicators and their implication for early detection is discussed
