The purpose of this project was to determine if re-education of hand hygiene practices reduces HAI rates among patients in a hospital setting.
Hand-Hygiene Practices.Thorough and proper hand hygiene significantly helped eliminate cross-contamination and reduce incidences of hospital-acquired infections. However, compliance with hand hygiene had always been low, with the average compliance rate at only 39%. Improving hand hygiene in healthcare settings had the potential to prevent infections and patient harm, thereby decreasing hospital stay and costs. Re-education helped increase compliance rates because it helped nurses and other healthcare providers’ access relevant resources for improving healthcare delivery outcomes
