In this proposal, I will be looking at the challenges of teaching reading skills. What are the skills a student must master to be a good reader? Reading skills fall into five categories: phonological awareness, word identification, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary.
Age and the quality of previous instruction both influence a student�s the level of reading skill, as does whether that student has a learning
the disability that remains unaddressed. Student’s with learning disabilities presents numerous challenges to teachers. In the classroom, three strategies are commonly used to address students with reading problems. The three that will be included in this proposal will be Response to Intervention- aims to intervene in a student�s education and modify the material based on the student�s response to the intervention. Reciprocal Teaching- aims to improve student reading ability to encourage and develop a dialogue between teachers and students. Peer Assisted Learning Strategy- aims to combine peer tutoring with instructional principles and practices.
