Accreditation is “a process of external quality review created and used by higher education to scrutinize colleges, universities, and programs for quality assurance and quality improvement” (CHEA, 2002).
It is a voluntary process that is pursued by nursing programs to assure the quality of those programs. Various accreditation agencies and organizations have a significant influence on the accreditation criteria. Some have a significant influence on these criteria with no official accreditation function.
For this assignment, students will continue to explore external stakeholders that exert this influence.Upon successful completion of this assignment you will be able to:
• Compare and contrast evaluation criteria established by a variety of accrediting agencies.
• Discuss the influence of specific agencies and organizations that influence the accrediting standards of nursing education.
