Managing and leading change

Managing and leading change

Order Details

Writers and practitioners have often debated the links between leading and managing, leadership and management, and the significance of the roles for organizations seeking to achieve sustainable change. For example, Bennis and Nanus (cited in Johnson, 2002) have argued that
‘…the problem with many organizations, and especially the ones that are failing, is that they tend to be overmanaged and underled.’
This week work with the scenario that your Manager has seen the quote above, and that you have been asked by her to research into the
challenges for organizations of working with organization change, but particularly in the context of leadership. She has indicated that her
organization is particularly interested in learning more about the concept of leadership and change, rather than a focus on individual
leaders.  As a newly appointed graduate manager, you have been asked to undertake some research into what is being said/written about on the subject of leadership in the context of organization change, and make notes on what you see as some of the key findings emerging from your initial research. Given how extensive a subject leadership is, you are then required to draw from your research to shape a focus which can inform a presentation to the Senior Management Team (i.e. key aspects from your research that you feel are particularly
significant).
