Your job is to construct a dialogue map of the questions, answers and reasons that Socrates considers in the Apology that pertain to the claim that he makes on pages 29-30 in the margin, where he asserts that : “Wealth does not bring about excellence, but excellence makes wealth and everything else good for men, both individually and collectively.”
Take a paragraph to clarify the claim that he is making. Based on what has been said up to this point in both the Apology and the Euthyphro, try to piece together the main reasons Socrates gives for thinking this is true. Take another paragraph to set out the main reasons you’ve found. Third, in your map, compare your answer to the question “Which of these things is the most important aim?” to the claim Socrates has made. Do you agree with Socrates, or do you disagree? Why? Map it. We will go over your explanation at the beginning of class on the board and you will circle and label the points that are on track and then list the key points that are missing.
